HMS 101 Introduction to Health, Medicine, and Society 3
This course introduces students to an interdisciplinary approach to the critical study of medicine, health and illness. Students will gain the ability to assess ethical issues in healthcare, changes in the social organization of medicine, and people’s expressions of their lived experiences of healthcare.
HMS 410 Capstone Seminar for Health, Medicine, and Society 3
This interdisciplinary Capstone Seminar explores how health and illness are understood, experienced, and represented in U.S. cultural, social, and political contexts. Through workshops and applied case studies, students learn to interpret health discourse, critique systems of care, and produce actionable insights for careers in policy, communication, research, and health-related fields.
Prerequisites: HEMS major or Permission of Instructor.
HMS 433 Research Experience in Health, Medicine, and Society 3
Opportunity for students to participate in various phases of research projects being conducted by faculty members affiliated with Health, Medicine, and Society.
Prerequisites: HEMS major or permission of instructor. Sophomore status or above;
Notes: May be repeated for credit.
